Disturbing sight at Torres

Many of you know that we have a timeshare at Torres Mazatlan and have many beautiful vacation memories of this resort. We were even married there, on the beach, February 14, 1997. I know many of you have actually been there too.

Well, last evening we went out to Torres for dinner and saw a sight that was very sad. We were aware of the litigation that is going on regarding who has ownership to part of the land that Torres sits on, but hadn't actually seen what has happened. The company that is claiming that part of the land is theirs, has built a fence around the parcel of land north of the pools and Building D. It seems the company came on the land with no prior warning. Their construction workers were accompanied by armed guards, who threatened anyone who attempted to interfere with them. They chose a time and day for this invasion which was a US holiday weekend and when Torres would be unable to seek immediate legal redress to stop them. They did call the Mazatlan police and the company's personnel agreed to stop all work until the following Monday when Mazatlan judicial authorities could rule on who had rights to the land. They broke these promises during the nighttime when the police would not protect their land. This all happened last 4th of July. They not only put up a fence but toppled over the palapas and now the beautiful grassy area, where we all once enjoyed relaxing in the sun, is dried up. Also, the putting green and beautiful cactus gardens are gone. Just so sad.

However, a screen has been erected in front of the fence and fast growing plants have been used to quickly recreate that home feeling while they continue to pursue all legal remedies both in Mexico and Seattle. Also, notice the shower has been nicely reconstructed along this fence.

The pathway to the beach has been narrowed to provide more seating around the beach wall.

Many new palapas have been erected to accommodate services.

The massage and ceramics palapa relocated.

They have nicely created an area in front of the restaurant and building A and have also put up tables and umbrellas on the beach.
The large palapa that was open air has windows now but the windows do open. It's actually very nice for those breezy, chilly evenings.
More lounge chairs have been placed around the pool to accommodate their guests.
All in all, they have done an excellent job of reconstructing the grounds to accommodate their guests and make it very comfortable and beautiful while they go through this legal process. We are definitely hoping it won't take too long. We understand they do have more plans to improve the grounds. Outside of the fence, which was certainly a disturbing sight, the grounds are just as beautiful and well-groomed as ever!
The wait staff is still as friendly, with great service, as ever. Still the same faces i.e. Memo, Victor, Ishmael, Rudy, Andreas (the singer) and on and on.
