Our Christmas tree is up!

Here are a few photos of our Christmas tree. We have put it up on the terrace (outside). Very strange but getting used to it. Also, we have included a few pictures of items we have added to our new home in the last couple of weeks. It is really starting to feel homey now. Now if we can just get some tv channels to watch that would be great. Still waiting on the satellite dish to be installed. Seems to be some kind of a cabling problem in our new building. We are sure it will happen in time though. Also, looking forward to the installation of our dishwasher. I am sure tired of doing dishes by hand. Oh poor me..... huh. Actually, it has been rather therapeutic.

We are enjoying our new retirement life here in Mazatlan more and more every day. The getting settled into our new home has had many challenges but we feel like we will be able to get down to the beach more now; which is the reason we retired to Mexico. To be beachbums!!

Signs of Christmas in Maz

Just a few pictures of some of the stores, etc. here in Maz. Since before Halloween, we have been seeing displays such as these in and around the city. The last one is a display in the entrance of a grocery store. Again, kinda of a strange sight to us with 80 + degree temps.

Home Depot opens in Mazatlan

Finally, Home Depot opened here in Maz last Thursday, November 16th. The locals, as well as, us gringos have anxiously been awaiting the opening. This will make a huge difference in many of our home repair/remodeling, etc. needs. We have been waiting for them to open to purchase our dishwasher. If you look closely, you can see Greg with our friend Terri, as we leave the store after our first visit. Terri purchased her ceiling fans and we got many odds and ends we have been needing like door stops, and other hardware items and checked out the dishwashers. The inventory is just as you would find in the states. So we were very happy. If you look closely, you can even see some Christmas decor on the roof too. Kinda of a strange sight with 85 degree temperatures.

Torres Mazatlan Palapa Restaurant & Bar remodeled

These are pictures of the newly remodeled palapa restuarant/bar area at Torres Mazatlan. This is our timeshare here in Mazatlan where we have vacationed for many years. We were there for dinner last evening and found the remodel has been completed and is just beautiful! Some of you have vacationed here and we thought you might enjoy seeing these pictures. The bar is more spacious and now is separate from the restaurant, so that is really nice. There is new lighting in the restaurant and the wall you see with the lighted arches is where the bar was formerly.

The restaurant is putting on a Thanksgiving dinner for all of us gringos and we have reservations for 4:00. A couple from Maple Valley, Ed & Rosella, who have moved down here too and are our neighbors, will be joining us too. So we'll see if mexican turkey dinner is any different from the turkey in the states. We'll let you know.

Greg's 2nd attempt at surf fishin!

Well Greg's 2nd outing proved successful! This morning, Saturday, November 11th about
11:00 am on an overcast day, with a storm depression brewing here in Mazatlan, he caught his first two fish.

He caught a 2 pound Red Snapper and a 1 pound Toro. He said to mention he was using a plastic shrimp for bait.

Greg was very happy and excited. Now this is what he retired to Mexico to do!

Guess we'll be having fish for dinner tonight. Yum, can't wait.

New additions to our Terrace

We have some new additions to our terrace. We finally have some plants! From left, Bougainvillea, Basil, Hibicus and a Palm. We got all these plants at a nursery here in Mazatlan for an incredible price. The plants, pots, stands, repotted and delivered for $800 pesos or $78 US. You couldn't get this size palm for that price in the states and it would probably die anyway.

We are really loving the new additions to our terrace. From here, we are enjoying the cool ocean breeze, the sight and sounds of the waves lapping on the beach and the incredibly beautiful sunsets each night. We even have some visitors. Since we added the plants, two geckos have shown up. We are hoping the little guys will stay.

Pics from our Terrace

Greg goes surf fishin!

Greg finally got a few minutes to do some surf fishing this past week. These pictures were taken on the beach right in front of our building. He didn't catch anything but had a good time trying. I am sure he will get something next time.

We are pretty well settled now....

Here are a few pictures of our place now that we are getting settled. Still need artwork on the walls and a few more pieces of furniture but those pieces will come over time. Enjoy! :) We understand it is getting pretty cold up north. Even snowing in Spokane. Burrrrr, just can't imagine with the weather we are having here in Mazatlan. Still warm with a nice breeze off the ocean. Not even using the air conditioning now. Very pleasant.
