Orphanage visits

This week we visited a couple of orphanages here in Mazatlan. We learned some interesting things while visiting Orfanatorio de Mazatlan.

Since we were here last year, a home for teenage girls has been established. Here is some information on a group of concerned Mazatlecos (locals) who are starting up this home for teenage girls, ages 10 to 16. It is called Floreser IAP.
This article was translated from Spanish to English through Google, so it reads a little strange but you can get the gist of what Floreser IAP's mission is for the girls. What a beautiful gester on the part of the mexican people to provide this opportunity for these young ladies.

Here is a photo of the future home for the girls. We will be attending an open house next Wednesday and should have more information and some better photos of the home then.
We also visited Father Tovar's Home for Boys, Hogar San Pablo.
Click on this link to learn more about this boys home.
This is the front entrance.
There was a poster on the gate advertising an upcoming charity event to benefit the home. If you enlarge (double-click) the photo you can see a photo on the poster of the boys.
The reason for our visit to the boys home was to deliver some baseball equipment Greg had picked up at some thrift stores in Yakima. As we walked through the gate of the home, the boys gathered around Greg excitedly when they saw the bats, mits, baseballs and soccer balls. The home is catholic run and this nun invited us into a room where we tried to communicate with her but pretty much just gathered she was very thankful. We heard lots of gracias. We are sure the equipment will be well used and appreciated.
