Próspero Año Nuevo

Well here we are January 1, 2008!! We wish you all a happy, healthy new year.

We woke up this morning to a beautiful sight out in the ocean. About 10 - 20 dolphins where frolicking within eyesight of our terrace. It was just a spectacular sight to see. They were just having a great time jumping and swimming north of Mazatlan. This is the first time we have seen them so we were very excited, even calling all our neighbors to be sure they were enjoying the view too.

The new year will bring us many guests this spring and more travels into the interior of Mexico.

January 18 - 22 we have a shopping trip planned to Guadalajara. We will take a bus tour from Mazatlan at 6:30 am and arrive about 4:00 pm on the 18th. The tour takes us to the towns of Tlaquepaque (tlah-keh-pah-keh) and Tonalá. These two suburbs of Guadalajara are traditional handicraft centers that produce and sell a wide variety of artesanía (crafts).

Here is a little information I found online about the area:

Tlaquepaque--Located about 20 minutes from downtown, Tlaquepaque has the best shopping for handicrafts and decorative arts in all of Mexico. Over the years, it has become a fashionable place, attracting talented designers in a variety of fields. Even though it's a suburb of a large city, it has a cozy, small-town feel; it's a pleasure simply to stroll through the central streets from shop to shop. No one hassles you; no one does the hard sell. There are some excellent places to eat or you can grab some simple fare at El Parián, a building in the middle of town that houses a number of small eateries. Many visitors to Guadalajara come specifically for the shopping in Tlaquepaque and Tonalá .

We understand this is a wonderful place to find authentic Mexican crafts/art at excellent prices. Here is where we will be staying 3 nights.
