We cross the border into New Mexico.

As we enter New Mexico, the terrain begins to look like this.
You can see some sort of a mine in the distance. We're not
sure what they were mining for.

Our first stop in New Mexico was the Aztec Ruins.
Early settlers mistakenly surmised that people of the famous
Aztec Empire in Mexico created these striking buildings. Hence the
name of the town Aztec, New Mexico.
Archeologists later determined that the builders were ancestors
of people of many southwestern tribes. Although the descendents
call their ancestors by different names depending on the tribe, they
are generally called "ancestral Puebloans".
Entrance to the Great Kiva.

This is a video of the Great Kiva. Archeologists
agree it was a public building, built and used by people
of the community and others nearby for ceremonial
and other community functions.
As we travel further into New Mexico and on to Alburquerque
the terrain begins to look like this and the road was very straight.
