Tres Islas Orphanage Fund

Many of you have asked us how you can help the orphaned children here in Mazatlan. We have recently found a wonderful organization that is working to support the orphans in four orphanages here in Mazatlan. We have met with the founders and are very impressed with how they are handling this task. The fund provides nourishing food, medical and educational needs, shoes, clothes and other supplies as needed for the children. We have included their website in this posting. It will give you a history of the Tres Islas Orphanage Fund and a printable donation form. In April, we plan to take a tour that this organization has planned of all four orphanages. We hope this information will be helpful in your desire to help the children of Mazatlan. Below is a list of the Mazatlan orphanages the fund supports: Orfanatorio Mazatlan (this is the orphanage we are working with) Salvation Army Children’s Home Hogar San Pablo Ciudad de los Ninos http://www.orphanagefunds.org/default.htm

Mazatlan's baseball team

Image
The past two evenings have been pretty noisey here on the malecon. Night before last, about sunset, the horns began to honk and flags were flying out windows of cars, pulmonias, etc. with lots of yelling and screaming in pure exhalation! Turns out the Venados (Deer), Mazatlan's baseball team, won their game against Los Mochis (a town about 2 hours north of Maz) which makes them the champions of the Mexican Pacific League. This puts them in the Caribbean Series which starts next month. Their first games of the series will be February 2nd against Venezuela and Puerto Rico in Mexicali, Baja, California. Here is a link to more information on the Series. http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/events/winterleagues/?league=cs Everyone was sooooooo excited and the horn honking went on way past midnight. Then, last evening we had a parade that started down the malecon just after sunset to honor the Venados. Here's a short video clip of part of the parade. It's kind of dark but if you increase yo...

Aroma Spa experience

Image
Today we went in search of massage spas here in Maz. We found an Aroma spa in El Centro (Old Mazatlan) just a block from the Plazuela Machado. It was quite different from any spa I have been to but thought what the heck and we both made appointments for 1 hour, full body massages. The price was quite reasonable $150 pesos each. (That's $15 US). The place is named "Aroma Spa" but the only scent we detected was in the air when you entered the spa. Sort of a pepperminty aroma. The spa rooms (air conditioned) were very interesting with tree trunks from floor to ceiling, draped with fabric and ribbon and strange things hanging from the ceiling. I tried to take a few photos but the spa rooms were quite small so they didn't turn out very well. Hopefully, you can get an idea of the decor. The photo with Greg in it is where they give manicures and pedicures (no air conditioning). Don't think I'll be going there for that. All in all, the experience was not too bad and...
